Chapter 15 utterly surprised me. Before Lolita reluctantly left for summer camp, she ran toward Humbert and kissed him! This presents a question: Is Lolita inherently impure, or was she corrupted by Humbert? In the earlier apple scene, I thought Lolita was pure-minded, not having noticed what Humbert has just done to her. However, her apparent purity disproved by Lolita’s kiss—not only did she notice that Humbert has desires for her, she decides to reciprocate his feelings.
